Sayonara,Bel 260

This semester,in Bel 260 class,I have learning many new things...

Miss Zu taught us using another method and I think it really works!!
The activity that Miss Zu did such as acting, game,and so on  make me more confident.
And the result is, my English are more better compared than the last semester...:D

Final Class : Food Time!!!

Today, Miss Zu gave us back the test of argumentative essay that we had done on Tuesday.My group just get 13 out of 20.....Well,we need to be improve a lot..:D

After that, Miss Zu gave us food!!!So many food!!!
She bought the food by the money that we collect from the late comers....I also the part members of late comers...So all of you,please say thanks to me..:D


As this the last class, Miss Zu gave us an advice and we also took some picture together with Miss Zu..



Authors Purpose and The Tone Words..

Today we learnt about authors purpose and the tone words.. 

Important reasons for author's to write:
1) entertain - The author tells a story that describes something or someone in an interesting way.
2) persuade - The author tries to change our opinion on a topic by appealing to our emotions.
3) instruct - The author will explain or teach something in the story that the reader doesn’t know.  The author   
                   provides knowledge to the reader.
4) describe - Authors often describe to support other purposes in writing. They use it to create a character,  
                     set a mood or envision a scene.






What is tone?
Tone-writer’s use of words and writing styles to demonstrate his or her stand towards the issue..


There are so many types of tone. As example:
•Compassionate 
•Cynical
•Bitter
•Indignant
•Evasive 
•Incredulous
•Optimistic
•Pessimistic
•Mocking
•Malicious




Passive Voice

What is passive voice??

Passive voice is used when the emphasis is more on the object of a sentence rather than the doer. 
The relationship between the active and the passive voice can be demonstrated as follow..
  e.g Din ate fried chicken  (ACTIVE VOICE)

Drawing Conclusion

Today, we learn on how to drawing a conclusion..
What is conclusion??
Drawing conclusions is a form of critical thinking. It is relating what you see, hear and read to what you already know” 


Drawing conclusions is an important skill to help us get the most out of your reading, an to understand the writer’s point of view. 
When draw a conclusion, we need to use all the facts that can find in the passage to help you figure out what we do not know.

Argumentative Essay

Today we learn how to write an argumentative essay...
Before writing,we must : 

- Brainstorm ideas
- Identify the main topics.
- Use these topics as headings.
- Decide which side you are on i.e. which arguments are most convincing.
- Plan and write an outline for your essay.

The instructions are,we must write : 
1) introduction paragraph
2) body paragraph
3) refutation paragraph
      -This is also used to support your claim. 
      -Use the counter arguments to show that your idea is the stronger one. 
      -Do not focus only on the opposing ideas.
4) Concluding paragraph

Inferences and Prediction

Today,Miss Zu shows us how to make an inferences and prediction..

What is inference??

You make an inference when you use clues from the story to figure out something that the author doesn't tell you.

After that,Miss Zu conduct a game,detective game..We need to find the killer based on the clue that we get..It very hard...but,eventually, Niena solve it..Whoaaa!!Good job..=='


What is prediction??
A prediction is what you think will happen based upon the text,the author, and the background knowledge.

Like inference,also conduct a game for this part...She show a video to us...What we going to do is prediction what will happen to the event that occur in the video..:)

Presentation Simple Past Tense & Past Continuous Tense

Another 2 presentations today..First presentation is about simple past tense by Iffah group..And the second presentation is about past continuous tense by Jihan group..

What is simple past tense??
Simple past tense is to talk about actions that happen at a specific time in the past.

When we can use simple past tense??
1) When it happened using a time adverb..e.g Last year I took my exams.
2) Described events that happened over a period of the time in the past but not now..
    e.g I lived in Asia for two years.
3) When talk about habitual or repeated actions that took place in the past..
    e.g When I was a child we always went to the seaside on bank holidays.

What is past continuous tense??
The past continuous tense is used to show an action that lasted for some time in the past . The actions can be interrupted by something or can be happening at the same time.

When we can use past continuous tense??
1) Actions that were in progress at some time in the past..e.g Were you cooking last evening?
2) Actions that was going on when a second one took place..
    e.g. I was eating when someone rang the door bell.
3) To show 2 actions happening simultaneously in the past.
    e.g Mrs Branson was baking a cake while her daughter was chatting on the phone.
4) As a past equivalent of the present continuous tense..
    e.g Alex said,"I am travel to Malaysia" (Direct Speech)
         Alex said that he was travel to Malaysia. (Indirect Speech)
5) To express a past habitual action, with adverbs like "always","often".
    e.g The old man was constantly muttering to himself.
6) To use in timid or polite questions..e.g I was wondering if you could open the window.
7) To use in irritation..e.g She always coming late for dinner !!
8) Actions which began before something else happened..e.g We were having dinner when the phone rang.

What is simple present tense??
Simple present used to :
- show habitual or regular action..e.g Jihan practices netball every Thursday.
- state a general truths, facts and scientific laws..e.g The suns rises in the east.
- to indicate future action..e.g Nolek arrives in Hawaii at 6 p.m.
- show permanent situations..e.g Poney works as waitress
- to give instructions or orders..e.g Never sleeps in my class.

What is present continuous tense??
Present continuous tense is mainly used to express the idea that something is happening at the moment of speaking. The Present Continuous also describes activities generally in progress (not at the moment). Another use of the tense is to talk about temporary actions or future plans.

Uses of present continuous tense are :
1) Present actions..e.g He is eating a dinner.
2) Temporary actions..e.g Mary is working at McDonald's. (She is only working there only duriing holidays)
3) Longer actions in progress..e.g They are working hard to earn money.
4) Future (personal) arrangements and plans..e.g I'm meeting Katie in the evening.
5) Tendencies and trends..e.g Our country is getting richer.

How to Write Intro Paragraph

Today,Miss Zu explain to us how to write intro paragraph...
There have 3 part of the intro paragraph,that are :
 1) The Hook - Designed to grab attention immediately and give some indication about the essay’s topic
 2) The Transition - Moves the reader from the hook to the driving force of the essay….
 3) The Thesis - Makes the contract with the reader about what will be discussed without a transparent  
                         announcement

There are 7 types of hooks,that are :

1) Personal examples
2) Quotations
3) Facts or statistics
4) Rhetorical questions
5) Current events
6) Contrast to the thesis statement
7) Definition

Listening Exercise & Adverb + Subject-Verb Agreement Presentation

Today,Miss Zu conduct listening exercise...I am not fully prepared..But I try my best...And the result,hemmmmm ok maybe..>_<
After that,it presentation time!!!This time is Hazwani group turn...They will present about adverb and subject-verb agreement..

What is adverb??
Adverb is can modify a verb, an adjective, another adverb, a phrase, or a clause. An adverb indicates manner, time, place, cause, or degree and answers questions such as "how," "when," "where," "how much".

What is subject-verb agreement??
Subject-verb agreement must agree in number: both must be singular, or both must be plural. Today,Miss Zu want to discuss about speaking test...What???!!I really hate speaking...However,if want I want to get more carry mark , I must through this..=='
The instruction about this speaking test is:
1) Take 4 people as 1 group ..
2) Decide who is candidate A,candidate B,candidate C and candidate D ..
3) This test is divide into 2 task, that is task A and task B ..
    Task A want us to try giving a point about the topic that we get.....Task B is more like making group  
    discussion about most effective point amount the candidates..
3) The time given for the both tasks is 10 minutes

It really difficult for me..:(

Non Linear Writing : Revise

Quiz & Presentation Adjectives and Conjuction .

At afternoon class,Miss Zu conduct a quiz..The format of the quiz is same like a mid term test..
It hard and i just get low mark ..However,life must go on..:D

At night class,it time for my group presentation..Our topic is about adjectives and conjuction..
Adjectives is a word that describe the noun(people, things, places, and so on)..
Conjunction is a joiner,a word that connects parts of the sentence.
e.g They eat watch television at the same time..

For this class,Miss Zu shows us an example of the past mid term papers..
Miss Zu shows us how to answer,the format and so on...
There are 2 section,that is reading comprehension and writing...
The reading comprehension consist of reference words.contextual clues,fact or opinion questions and some other questions..
Writing section is about non linear essay..

Forum

Today,Miss Zu conducting a forum activity...This activity like talk shows program such as Oprah Winfrey Show,Malaysia Hari Ini,Wanita Hari Ini and so on..
My group members for this forum are Hanis,Syafiqah,Suhaila and Ezuwan..
Ezuwan was the host and the rest were the panels.
And our task is :


You are a member of the malaysian nature society. The members feel that pollution, caused by plastic bags in malaysia, is increasing.
 How can the use of plastic bags in shopping complexes and supermarkets be reduced?Suggest few practical ways to solve the problem.Give reason for your choice .

Quiz & Differentiate Between Facts and Opinions

Today have 2 session class,that is in the afternoon and night..
Afternoon class actually was a replacement class....and POP!!we had a pop quiz,that is non linear essay quiz...
It not easy for me...: /
hope can get better mark..:)


At the night class,we learned about how to identify facts and opinions

A fact is :
--objective information that can be checked or proved to be true..
--information that does not change..
--not a statement about the future..
e.g. : Adele is a singer.

A opinion is : 
--is a statement that cannot be proved to be true or false..
--is one's personal belief, idea, or feeling about a subject..
--can be statement about the future..
e.g. : Adele is the great singer in the world.

After that,we divided into 5 groups. Each group must present and promote their product and state 10 statement consists of facts and opinions..
And the other groups must identify which is facts and opinions in the statement..
It really exciting activity right..:)


So You Think You Can Act??

Today,Miss Zu do the activity 'So You Think You Can Act' version The Musical...
Miss Zu want us to act + singing at the same time..
Whoaaa...It really hard task...But,we give it a try..
My group members for this activity is Din,Nabila,Syafiqah and Hazwani..
Our group get title about airplane hit by turbulance..
Our group perform mostly like musical comedi...hahha..:P



From my opinion,this activity is very awesome,excited,and humour..This activity make our self confident increase,make our speaking smoothly and make us discovered new talented.I did not realize that my classmates very talented in acting and singing too..They  can make interesting show just in short time and without do the full rehearsal..All of them have a creative think...Good job guys..:D

Pronoun and Prepositon..

Today,Group 2 present about PRONOUN and PREPOSITIONS...
The group members were Aira,Niena,Leyha,and Hanis...

A pronoun can replace a noun or another pronoun..You use pronouns like 'he','which',and 'you' to make your sentences less repititive..

Type of pronouns:
a) personal pronouns : used to replace nouns as subjects of sentence.
                                  e.g. : Amir Idris and Azmi are from Melaka.(They are from Melaka.)
b) reflexive pronouns : used to intensify and also reflect antecedents.
                                  e.g. : PM Zain himself conducts the seminar.(intensifies antecedent)
                                          PM Zain conducts the seminar himself.(reflects antecendent)
c) relative pronouns : used to join one phrase to other phrase.
                                e.g. : The talk on self-development that was attended by many participants was a   
                                        great success
d) interrogative pronouns : form the questions.
                                         e.g : How do you manage yourself?

Types of preposition:
a) Preposition of places : show where something is.

c) Preposition of movement : show something moves in relation to other things.

Presentation Time:Non Linear Text Writing

Yeahhh!! Another night class...:D
Today,each group must present the non linear text writing to classmates...
The report is about hours spent on the activities by different ages groups in Someland in a year..
We were given a table and must interpret it into a report and must not less than 150 words and not more than 200 words.

So,we try to make best report...
Well,our report still have weakness and lacking..
Miss Zu told that our report is lack of assumption and proposal..
But,Miss Zu likes the way we put fact to percentage (%)...

Reading

Today,Miss Zu taught us how to find main ideas..

WHAT IS MAIN IDEA??
Main idea is the thought that is present from the beginning to the end.

HOW TO FIND MAIN IDEA??
Ask yourself these
-what idea is common to most of the text??
-what is the idea that relates the parts to the whole??
-what opinion do all the parts support??

First step to find the main idea,you must look to the topic sentences of each paragraph..
Then understand the supporting details..
TIPS!!
Topic sentences USUALLY at the first sentence in the paragraph...
Search it carefully and you will find it..:)


Non-linear to linear text writing

Today,we learnt how to answer writing part in Bel 260 exam paper.It is about how to change non-linear text to linear text...

Tips..
1) Spend 5 minutes reading the graph/charts.
2) Makes sure you understand axes.
3) Makes sure you follow lines on graph.
4) Focus on the key information.
5) If tow graph,you must compare it.
6) Think about the time period - tenses.
7) Vary your vocabulary.
8) Organize information clearly.
9) Write neatly.

Non-linear to linear FORMULA!!
 TITLE 
first paragraph :  Over View + Control Idea 
next   :  2-3 Key Features 
conclusion  :  Prediction Or Proposal 

~Firstly,extract the TITLE from the question and remember to underline it.
~Over view and control - it depends on what kind of stimuli are given.
                                     - just write in 1 paragraph but 2 or 3 paragraphs also accepted.
~For the second,third and fourth paragraph,you need to identify the key features which are the most 
  outstanding ideas from the stimuli. 
ATTENTION!!:PLEASE DO NOT MAKE ANY EXTERNAL ASSUMPTIONS
~For the conclusion,it consist of minimum two sentences,prediction and proposal
      Predict what future trend..
      Propose a recommendation..

Fourth Week

Today task is very excited..
Why??
Because Miss Zu want us to create a poem...
WHAT??!!!I'm totally blank for a while...Yeaa I'm not A.Samad Said,who is the famous Malaysian poet and novelist...
But,I give a try..
The theme of the poem is 'I think I can'

I know I am just nobody,
I know I am just ordinary,
I know I am not Prime Minister,
I know I am not genius,
because,
I am just regular student,
I am trying to know the world,
through,
UiTM Segamat,
the places that i learned about life..


Through this places,
what is cannot become can,
what is impossible become possible,
what is difficult become easy,
from nobody become somebody..


From now on,
I think I can be extraordinary,
I think I can be Prime Minister,
I think I can be genius,
And
from this moment,
I think I can do everything in this world..

So,that my poem..I know I'm bad poet,not as good as A. Samad Said..
But,at least I try to create right..:)

Tonight,Miss Zu did't not teach us...But Group 1 will be our lecturer tonight..They presents about nouns and article..The group members were Salina,Poni,Rahey,and Hefa..

Examples type of nouns:
a) Proper noun : names of particular person or thing..
                        e.g UiTM,Dadali,Everlast,etc..
b) Common nouns : names of all things with same kind..
                              e.g laptop,chair,handphone,etc..
c) Abstract nouns : things that we can only think of and feel..
                             e.g bravery,trust,relaxation,etc..
d) Collective nouns : names of number of person or things consider as one..
                               e.g army,colony,set,etc..


Examples type of article:
a) 'a' and 'an' : used to refer to any member of a group..
                      e.g Zetty want a barbie doll for her birthday
b) 'the' : used to refer a specific or particular member of a group..
             e.g The sun is the biggest star in the universe


After the presentation,they conduct a game..It call Snake and Ladder game..We were divided by two groups..The instruction is each group must send a different group's member to throw the giant dice..Then he or she will pick a random question about nouns and article..If he or she answer correctly,the movement is according to the number from dice that he or she get..But,if fail,no movement..If he or she discussed with group member,backward one moves from the number that obtain..
It really fun,excited,hilarious,challenging game.!!.
